University Programmes

The Luxembourg Lifelong Learning Centre (LLLC), in cooperation with various higher-education partners in Luxembourg and abroad, offers part-time university programmes that allow participants to obtain an academic degree while continuing their professional activity.

Depending on the curriculum, the degrees offered include Master’s degrees (Bac +5), Bachelor’s/Licence degrees (Bac +3) and University Diplomas.

The first part-time university programme delivered in Luxembourg through the LLLC was added to the course offer in 1996, in partnership with the University of Nancy 2.

Since then, more than 5,760 registrations have been recorded.

Bachelor’s (Licences) and Master’s Degrees

For most university programmes, the LLLC offers the final year of the curriculum—meaning the third year of a Licence/Bachelor and the second year of a Master’s programme. After 12 to 36 months of study, participants obtain an academic qualification aligned with the Bologna Process: a Licence/Bachelor (180 ECTS) or a Master’s degree (120 ECTS).

For some university programmes, different formats may also be offered.

The degrees awarded are identical to those delivered by the LLLC’s partner universities and higher-education institutes. They do not mention the place of study.

Admission Requirements

If a candidate does not meet the standard academic prerequisites (Bac +2 or Bac +4) required to enter the final year of a university programme, it is possible—under certain conditions—to apply for validation of prior professional experience. This application is then examined by the academic committee.

University Diploma (Diplôme universitaire – DU)*

Designed independently by each university, University Diplomas (DU) are institutional degrees specific to the university that created them. They attest to the learner’s knowledge in the subject area, but they do not correspond to a Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s degree within the Bologna system. As such, they cannot be registered in the official list of recognised titles at the Ministry of Research and Higher Education.

Each DU is therefore unique and aims at a specific specialisation in its field.
