Vocational training in Luxembourg prepares individuals to learn a trade and leads to an official qualification: the Vocational Capacity Certificate (Certificat de capacité professionnelle – CCP), the Vocational Aptitude Diploma (Diplôme d’aptitude professionnelle – DAP), or the Technician’s Diploma (Diplôme de technicien – DT).

It is always organised on a work-study basis, combining school and company training, either under an apprenticeship contract (contrat d’apprentissage) or a traineeship agreement (contrat de stage).

It is intended for young people who have completed three years of secondary education, as well as for adults who wish to gain a qualification.

Initial vocational training (formation professionnelle initiale) is organised by the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth (Ministère de l’Éducation nationale, de l’Enfance et de la Jeunesse – MENEJ), in cooperation with the Chamber of Employees (Chambre des salariés – CSL) and the employers’ chambers (Chamber of Agriculture / Chambre de l’agriculture, Chamber of Commerce / Chambre de commerce, Chamber of Skilled Trades and Crafts / Chambre des métiers).
