Target audience

This seminar is aimed at professionals that use Excel and want to progress from basic use towards understanding data using Excel.

Objectives

This seminar aims to Understand and apply the principles of exploratory data analysis (EDA), Understand and explain Excel’s capabilities for statistical analysis, Identify patterns, trends, and anomalies in data, Create clear visualizations to communicate findings

Content

  • Principles of exploratory data analysis and data summarization.
  • Excel functionality for descriptive statistics and the Analysis Toolpak
    • Descriptive statistics tool
    • Correlation tool
  • Conditional analysis and logical operations
    • Conditional aggregation functions
  • Data visualization: 
    • histograms, 
    • scatter plots,
    • box plots, 
    • correlograms and dot plots.

Prerequisites

To extract the most from the course, students should have good grasp of Excel’s features such as inserting formulas, fixed and moveable referencing, inserting and customizing charts, applying conditional formatting using formulas, and data validation principles. Additionally, good understanding of operations such as percentages, proportions, raising to a power, averages and the use of logical operators (greater than, less than, not equal to) is required.
